Properly Jump Starting Someone's Car

Driving around Temecula, you might be asked to jump start a vehicle with an accidentally drained batter. Take advantage of the following tips from DCH Acura of Temecula.

Jumper cables are coded with colors. Negative cables have black-covered clamps. Positive cables feature red or yellow covers. For safety, turn off your car before connecting any cables. You must attach the four clamps sequentially. First, fasten your positive cable to the weak battery's matching terminal. Next, connect your positive cable to your battery's matching terminal, and attach your negative cable only to your negative terminal.

The last clamp is a fire hazard. It must not touch a battery terminal. Connect it to a clean bolt on the receiving car's engine block. Start your car. Run it for a minute to build a charge. Attempt to start the receiving car. Several attempts may be required. Wait a minute or two between them. After several failures, expert help may be required.
